The Art of Scale Drawing

As part of the curriculum and under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell -IQAC; the Faculty of  Art & Aesthetics -Visual Arts Mr. Raymond Pereira conducted a session on ‘The Art of Scale  Drawing’ for  the S.Y. B.Ed. Trainees batch 2022-24 from 9:30am-11:00am, on the 24/7/23.

The objective of  the session was to inculcate in each of the young teacher aspirants the finer nuances of art.  A scale drawing is one that shows a real object with accurate sizes reduced or enlarged by a certain ratio.  An enlargement changes the size of an object by multiplying each of the lengths by a scale factor to make  it larger or smaller.

The trainees were introduced to 3 major types of scale drawing techniques.

(i) Full scale: The scale used to represent objects as they are or appear in real life or as it is given on a diagram.

(ii) Reduction scale: The scale that is used to reduce the size of objects as they appear.

(iii) Enlarged scale:  The scale that is used to enlarge the size of objects as they appear.

The trainees were given a demonstration and a hands on working experience, wherein each one drew an image of their choice to scale. Also, the various applications and possibilities of scale drawing were shared.
