Awareness Talk on Suicide Prevention
Nirmala Institute of Education, under the aegis of the IQAC, organised an awareness talk titled “Changing the Narrative on Suicide: Start the Conversation” on 10 September 2026, in observance of World Suicide Prevention Day.
The session was conducted by Dr. Akshada Amonkar, Consultant Psychiatrist, who sensitised students and staff to the importance of recognising signs of suicidal distress, addressing stigma and fostering open and compassionate conversations around mental health.
The session highlighted the role of teachers and peers in listening without judgement, responding sensitively and connecting individuals with appropriate support and professional help.
The programme reinforced the message that suicide prevention is everyone’s responsibility and that one caring conversation can be the beginning of hope and support.
