Student Exchange Program Held at Nirmala Institute of Education

Thirty undergraduate students from Saint Claret College Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, embarked on a 4-day Cultural Ambassador visit to Goa, hosted by Nirmala Institute of Education, Panaji. Accompanied by Fr. Allwyn Mendoz, the Principal of Saint Claret College Ziro, Fr. Dency Tharappel, a member of the management, Dr. Ordetta Mendoza, Coordinator for Academic Planning and Development, along with faculty members Ms. Jamroi Rera - Dept. of Commerce, Mr. Horrething Lungleng - Dept. of Mass Communication and Ms. Agatha H - Administrative staff, this enriching exchange program served as a platform for students from both institutions to illuminate the social, cultural, and ecological tapestries of their respective states.

The itinerary commenced with a Heritage Walk around the city of Panjim on the first day, beginning at the Bishop’s House and proceeding to landmarks such as the Immaculate Conception Church, the Post Office, and the Latin Quarter, Fontainhas. This provided the students with insights into Goan history and culture. The afternoon session featured brief introductions of the two institutions, followed by a cultural program presented by NIE students. This was followed by the students of Arunachal Pradesh introducing themselves in their vibrant, colorful attire representing their diverse tribes.

On the second day, students from Saint Claret College offered a glimpse into the tribal cultures of their State through presentations, documentaries, dances, and an exhibition showcasing their traditional costumes, ornaments, tools, and equipment.

The following day saw the ambassadors exploring Old Goa, visiting iconic sites such as Bom Jesus Basilica and the Se Cathedral. The group enjoyed a delightful lunch and a refreshing swim at Utorda Beach. On January 6th, 2024, they continued their journey to Mangalore by train to explore the remainder of their tour.

In retrospect, the exchange program proved to be a valuable experience for both institutions, not only fostering new relationships but also deepening the bonds of friendship. It not only evoked harmony but also instilled a profound appreciation for cultural diversity.
