Students of NIE participated in ‘Goemchem Daiz’ Competition

The Inter-College ‘Goemchem Daiz’ Competition was conducted as part of the celebration of Goy Asmitai Dis, which is traditionally celebrated on 16 January. The competition was organized by the Department of History, Carmel College of Arts, Science, and Commerce for Women, Nuvem, Margao on 15 January 2026. A total of five colleges participated in this competition.

The primary objective of this competition was to create awareness and promote understanding of the rich cultural traditions of Goa. Ten students from the Nirmala Institute of Education, guided and accompanied by faculty member, Ms. Gautami Khandeparkar (Asst.Prof. Performing Arts). The team participated in the various sub-events of the competition. The competition comprised the following sub-events: Goemkara, Fuloi Sanskrutai (Goan Traditional Fashion Show): Ms. Danisha Rodrigues served as the narrator for the fashion show, while Ms. Franzilla Rebello, Ms. Hazel Colaco, Ms. Melanie Da Rocha, Ms. Saloni Dessai, Ms. Shambhavi Ghorpade, Ms. Shradha Gaonkar, Ms. Sudha Naik, Ms. Sumedha Kalangutkar, and Ms. Sweanie Falcao were the part of the fashion show. The team showcased the diverse traditions of Goa by focusing on various Goan feasts and festivals securing First Place for this sub-event. 

Utt Goemkara (Elocution Competition), Ms. Danisha Rodrigues represented the Institution and received the Appreciation Certificate for her performance. Nach Goemkara (Goan Folk Dance Competition): Ms. Franzilla Rebello, Ms. Hazel Colaco, Ms. Melanie Da Rocha, Ms. Saloni Dessai, Ms. Shambhavi Ghorpade, Ms. Sudha Naik, Ms. Sumedha Kalangutkar, and Ms. Sweanie Falcao participated in this sub-event and received Appreciation Certificates for their performance. Overall, this competition proved to be an enriching experience, providing the students with an opportunity to celebrate Goan culture, enhance their confidence, and build teamwork.
