A Session on PoSH Act- 2013

A session on the topic 'Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at the Workplace (PoSH) Act 2013' was conducted for the F.Y. and S.Y.B.Ed. students of Nirmala Institute of Education Panaji on 10th March 2026 at 3:00 p.m. in the NIE Hall. The session was led by Ms. Priya Shirodkar and Ms. Abigail Fernandes, students of LLB and members of the PoSH Compliance Clinic of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar who shared valuable knowledge and guidance on the importance of creating a safe and respectful workplace environment for women. Around 95 students along with the faculty members of NIE and some members of the B.Ed. staff attended the session. Ms. Chrystal Braganza, student representative  of the IC, NIE welcomed the members of the PoSH compliance clinic.

The speakers began by explaining the purpose and significance of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, commonly known as the PoSH Act. They highlighted how this Act aims to protects women from sexual harassment at the workplace and ensures that organizations provide a safe working environment. The presenters clearly explained what constitutes sexual harassment and how awareness about the laws help individuals  recognize inappropriate behaviour.

During the session, the speakers also discussed preventive measures that institutions and individuals can take to avoid such incidents. They emphasized the importance of maintaining professional boundaries, respecting personal space, and promoting a culture of dignity and equality at workplaces and educational institutions.

Another important aspect of the session was the procedure for filing a complaint. The speakers explained the step-by-step process involved, if a person experiences or witnesses harassment. They also informed the participants about whom to approach, such as the Internal Committee (IC), and how complaints could be reported in a safe and confidential manner.

The session was made quite interactive, allowing students to gain a better understanding of their rights and responsibilities. It helped raise awareness about workplace safety and encouraged everyone to stand against harassment.

The session concluded at 4:00 p.m., leaving the participants with valuable insights and a deeper understanding of the importance of ensuring a respectful and secure environment for all. At the end, Ms. Selcea D'Costa F.Y. B.Ed. student proposed the vote of thanks.
