Workshop held On 'Puppet making'

Nirmala Institute of Education, Altinho-Panaji organised a workshop on Puppet Making on Wednesday, 14th February 2024 for the S.Y.B.Ed students. Ms. Gautami Khandeparkar (Asst. Prof. in Performing Arts NIE) was the resource person for the day. She began the session with an introduction to the Art of puppetry via a vibrant presentation which provided an overview of the art of puppetry as an ancient art form, tracing its roots in Indian culture, its evolution over centuries and its role in storytelling and entertainment.  Students were introduced to the diverse forms of puppetry found across India, including string puppets, glove puppets, shadow puppets, rod puppets and others.

The next section of the workshop included a practical session where the students got a rare opportunity to make and design their own sock puppets. Each student was provided with a handy sock puppet making kit. Under Ms. Gautami's expert guidance and step by step instructions, students unleashed their creativity to design and customize their own sock puppets. They experimented with different colors, patterns, embellishments, wool placement and braiding to give each puppet its unique character, style and personality.

Once the puppets were complete, students were given the opportunity to engage in storytelling activities using the same. Ms. Gautami encouraged them to develop short narratives and scenes, allowing them to bring their puppets to life through imaginative storytelling. Ms. Andria, Ms. Sonali and Ms. Vaishnavi of S.Y.B.Ed entertained the group with their humorous puppetry using their newly made sock puppets. Everyone then gathered for a group picture along with their puppets which soon transitioned into the entire group singing the famous Konkani song ‘Kalliz Boom Bang Zata’. Ms. Gautami's enthusiasm and guidance created a lively and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the workshop. Students were thrilled and proud of their own creations and clicked numerous pictures. The workshop concluded at 11:00 am and proved to be a great success.
