Nirmala Institute of Education organized a Human Rights and Advocacy Session on 5th January 2026 for the First Year B.Ed. students. The session was conducted by Br. Tino who guided the students through key concepts related to human rights and social responsibility. The programme was attended by the Principal, faculty members, and First Year teacher trainees.
The resource person, Br. Tino D’Abreu introduced the students to the United Nations’ framework on Human Rights, with special emphasis on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and its 30 fundamental rights. The session also focused on the responsibility of individuals in respecting and protecting the rights of others.
A significant part of the session addressed advocacy for vulnerable and marginalized groups, stressing the role of teachers as change agents in promoting justice, inclusion, and equity. Br. Tino further connected human rights education with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing how education, equality, and social justice contribute to sustainable development.
The session was informative and thought-provoking, encouraging students to reflect on their roles as responsible citizens and future educators. Overall, the programme sensitized the trainees to human rights values and inspired them to actively engage in advocacy and social transformation.
